Search for Associate Growers to grow Orchids

US Orchid Laboratory and Nursery Inc, the US branch of the largest orchid grower in China, has worked with the UMES Cooperative Extension Service to develop the methodology to propagate elegant orchid blooms on the Maryland Eastern Shore. These Chinese horticulturists are part of a multifaceted project implemented by the Maryland Department of Business and Economic Development and the Maryland Department of Agriculture in conjunction with the University of Maryland Eastern Shore.

An introductory meeting is scheduled on the UMES campus on February 2nd. 2008 to introduce interested residents of the Maryland Lower Eastern Shore to this new venture and explain how they might become Associate Growers in this new industry. No experience is needed and the first set of growers will be selected immediately. The program will introduce the orchid specialists, the company, the process and marketing of the orchids, and a production tour of the Hydroponics Greenhouse facility adjacent to the Food Science Building.

For more information contact the UMES Cooperative Extension Service office at 410-651-6206.
